Emanate This Year’s Met Gala Looks
The first Monday of every May, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts a fundraising gala to celebrate the launch of its annual Costume Institute summer exhibition. The most stylish celebrities are always on the guest list, and spectators around the globe love viewing their red carpet looks. This year, you can take a look at what celebrities wore and rent a similar style from OPRENT’s collection for your next fashionable event.
The theme for this year’s gala was Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, known for his extreme and avant-garde style. Gala guests wore gowns that applauded this theme, ranging from over-the-top avant-garde to slightly experimental.
On the less severe side, Celine Dion wore a Versace gown, made to look like pieces of black fabric were tide on to her body in a somewhat messy manner. Russian supermodel Natasha Poly wore a Michael Kors Collection dress that featured a simple and straight shape that began with a rounded collar and ran to the floor. What made the sparkly red piece original was its solo sleeve and circular cut-outs spread out on the upper-body.
And conversely, the looks that were more unattainable for everyday trends included Rihanna in a Comme des Garçons piece that basically looked like she had been covered in pieces of origami art, as well as Kendall Jenner in a transparent La Perla Couture gown made of crystals. Claire Danes sported a top and trousers set by American label Monse that appeared to have been torn apart and then put back together in a decorative way.
Whether you prefer the more down-to-earth take on experimental style or the completely avant-garde approach, the Met Gala provides inspiration for your formal events this season. And if you’re more akin towards the former, OPRENT has got you covered.
