Play with Prints This Spring

Designs with prints are an effortless way to bring maximum glamour to any style. And this season, the more attention-grabbing the print is, the better. As per usual, floral prints do play a huge role this spring, but designers offer new ways to incorporate florals plus other print options to bring more variety to your spring rotation.

On their catwalk for Spring/Summer 2017, Balenciaga showed us a playful take on the classic spring floral motif. Rendered in bright colours, some of these two-dimensional outlined patterns seemed reminiscent of pop art, while others featured intensely hued large-scale flowers that are sure to be noticed from miles away.

Christopher Kane had fun with his prints this season. Throughout the collection, there was a strong blue-hued pattern featuring a childlike approach to the floral theme. The flowers were made of cloud-shaped petals surrounding perfect circle centres with thin black outlines that added an almost cartoon-like quality to the pattern and ensures a look that is quite easily noticed.

On another catwalk, Carolina Herrera utilised patterns to enhance the label’s signature ultra-feminine appeal. Modern takes on classic stripe or gingham patterns were crafted on gowns, bringing attention to each piece’s beautiful and elegant draping effects. In other instances, soft floral patterns that are almost suggestive of wallpaper designs bring modern notice to graceful skirts.

Prints bring more substance to a piece, allowing less of a need for extra accessories or a jacket to complete your look. A dress with a print really just needs a simple pair of shoes and you’re good to go.
