The 2017 Fashion Awards
The yearly fashion awards event is one to keep watch of. Debuting the cream of the crop from the industry, the crowd is arguably the best dressed. Partnered with Swarovski this year, the Fashion Awards, hosted at London’s Royal Albert Hall celebrated the best of industry insiders.
Along with honouring major heavyweights such as the departure of Christopher Bailey at Burberry after being at the helm of the British brand for 17 years, supermodel Naomi Campbell made an emotional tribute to none other than the late Azzedine Alaïa who had passed away early last month. Other noteworthy honours were made to the likes of Pat McGrath, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Donatella Versace for their contributions and visions in the industry as women.
Seminal awards also recognised emerging talents in both menswear and womenswear, which went to Michael Halpern and Charles Jeffrey. Jeffreys collection inspired by his idol John Galliano had been praised for showcasing the impact of club life on fashion and had just opened his first exhibition named The Come Up, a week prior to receiving this award.
As names were honoured, this years fashion awards not only celebrated craftsmanship but took on a more political note with many winners remarking on the industry’s slow but sure change to accepting social and racial diversity. Environmental issues were also touched upon, an issue that has been looming over the issue for some time, with none other than Stella McCartney being recognised with an award for innovation.
Of course, the stunning outfits that walked the red carpet complimented the celebration of industry juggernauts. Adwoa Aboah glittered in a sequinned frock, Zendaya contrasted her blonde pixie cut with a black velvet and sheer dress, and style queen Giovanna Battaglia rocked a printed Richard Quinn dress.
